How to Get Blog Post Ideas in Even the Most Boring Industries

Your industry is boring?  Well so is mine.

I don’t really mean that!  I think SEO is very interesting, but for the average Joe it is fairly boring and technical and yawn inducing.  However, everyone needs it and getting on to page one of Google interests everyone – doesn’t it?

OK, so let’s say you work in a really really boring industry.  You have decided to employ Nu Studio to do your SEO (a wise choice).  One of the first things we will ask you to do is to keep a weekly blog or news section.  Why?  Google loves content.  I could go on and on as to why Google loves content, but that’s not the point of this particular blog post.  Trust me, good content that is regularly updated wins.  Think Wikipedia.

Buy industry magazines/follow industry blogs

This is the simplest and best way to find content that is interesting in your industry.  You are not trying to write content that is amazingly interesting to everyone.  You are trying to write content that is interesting for the visitors to your website.  If it’s good enough to make headlines in an industry magazine or an industry blog, then it’s interesting enough for your blog or news section.

Never just copy and paste.  Always write unique content

What are the questions you are most often asked?

Everyone who runs their own company gets asked the same questions over and over again.  Why not write a blog post to answer each question?  Not only can your refer people to the blog post when they ask the question, but you might also find you pick up internet traffic.  Why?  Well, if people are asking the question face to face the chances are they are asking that same question in Google.

Follow industry leaders on Twitter

Got a Twitter account? Well, why not find and follow your industry leaders?  You will find they are always tweeting about interesting and relevant news that is specific to your industry.  For example, how do you think I came up with the idea for this post?  I saw that someone else had posted something similar and I got inspired to do the same.

Follow these ideas and, no matter what industry you are in, you will find things to write about.
