Create Specific Content for Platforms
You should create content for each of the platforms and mention it on a responsive page. You can do this using keywords or by producing content that establishes your site as a platform-specific landing page that is also responsive to mobile phone users.
Create Sites Using HTML5
HTML5 is a great tool to create responsive websites for mobile phone users. You don’t have to mention that the content is compatible with mobile phones or you can even use keywords that describe it as compatible with Android, iPhone and other mobile devices. Disney’s gaming site uses HTML5 games so that it’s compatible for each platform.
Create Interactive Content
With responsive design, you’re limited to the amount of content you can give to a mobile user. However, that just means you should think about what your user is looking for most when they are browsing your site on their phones. For example, Lowe’s found that many smartphone users were already in the store when using their mobile phones to browse the site, so they provided in-store maps that use the user’s mobile location to help them find products easily.
Can Your Site Be Crawled?
Some simple pointers to remember is that even responsive sites must be indexed and “crawlable” by Google bots. This means that Google must be able to pull information from each link that is unique to your site. You can use tools like Screaming Frog or SEO Crawler to conduct a mobile SEO review and see if your site is working properly with search engines.
Use Text Instead of Images
It’s right in the Google Webmaster Guidelines, but you should always “use text instead of images” to display essential links, content, names and addresses. Crawlers can’t recognize information purely in images.
Links on your responsive design site must be easily remembered and shared. This means that they shouldn’t have any strange characters in the URL path. For example, a good URL for a responsive site page would be http://www.nustudio.com.au/seo because the path is short and memorable. However, something like http://www.nustudio.com.au/seo-dj394jasdf031123123 would not benefit your SEO. You can also incorporate social sharing buttons to make it easier to share content on social media.
You should make sure that all of your content is usable on multiple smartphones. You should also favor text information for important data like contact information and product descriptions. Websites should also contain relevant keywords for platform-specific content like “iPhone games” or “Android apps.”
